The Oregon Cat
Project’s mission is to eliminate the needless euthanasia of cats and kittens
due simply to their being homeless, to provide safe and loving sanctuary until
homes can be found, and to help to create a no-kill society for all animals
through aggressive sterilization and heightened public awareness.
The Oregon Cat
Project founded in 2010 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit feline advocacy that is
comprised of a three-stage plan.First,
the establishment of an adoption center for cats and kittens in need.TOCP currently maintains a no-kill rescue and
adoption center that opened its doors in April 2010 for kittens and cats of all
ages including those who test positive for either FIV or FeLV.Over
1400 have been rescued to this point.
Stage two is
the opening of a low cost/no cost feline spay and neuter clinic for all cats
regardless of ownership status or disposition at our current location. This
clinic will provide spay or neuter surgery for $29.95 to any cat with no
qualifications, limits, or geographic boundaries except that he or she be
deemed fit by our veterinarian. A July 2012 opening is on the horizon and gives
great promise to the reduction of feline births.15,000 surgeries are planned in the first
year with many of them being provided free. A neuter scooter van is in the works for
January 2013.
Lastly, and
already in the earliest planning stages, our largest undertaking, the 2015
opening of the first no kill – open admission feline shelter in the NW, leaving
no cat in need.Without the second stage
of our plan and the drastic reduction of total numbers of kittens born every
year, the third stage would be an impossibility.Services will include, but are not limited to
feline rescue, a non-profit medical center practicing both traditional western
and eastern medicines and providing low cost/no cost spays and neuters,
adoptions, a state-of-the art neonate nursery, housing and treatment until
adoption for FeLV and FIV cats, sanctuary and foster care for geriatric and
hospice cats, barn cat program, food bank, behavioral hotline, and the world’s
greatest feline retail store.
